Application security: what to think about from day one
The basics of secure development — why prevention is cheaper than an incident, and where to start.
Security is often dealt with only once something happens. Yet most problems come from skipped basics: weak authentication, outdated dependencies and access without rules.
Secure development is not more expensive — just more deliberate. Its absence costs far more.
Where to start
Follow least privilege, keep dependencies current, validate input and never hard-code secrets. Set up backups and a plan for when something goes wrong.
Security is continuous
A one-off audit is not enough. Security is part of normal work: dependency checks, access reviews and fast reactions to vulnerabilities. The sooner it becomes a habit, the less it hurts.
What to do during an incident
Have a ready playbook: who decides, who to inform, how to restore service and how to find the cause. A calm, planned response is what matters.
